If you’ve ever perused the beauty tag on Pinterest then you know that makeup dupes are extremely popular on the site. As much as I love a good makeup or beauty dupe, not all of the dupes mentioned are golden. How many times can I say “dupe” in this post? I thought it would be fun to test out some Pinterest makeup dupes and see if the two products really are interchangeable or if they are as different as night and day.

5 Pinterest Makeup Dupes Tested

NYX Soft Spoken vs Kat Von D Lolita II

Kat Von D Lolita dupe

No. No. Definitely Not. These are not dupes. I could tell simply from the packaging that they’re not the same. NYX Soft Spoken is more of a pinky brown nude while Kat Von D Lolita II is more of a terra-cotta shade. I even compared it to Kat Von D Lolita and they’re still not dupes. Lolita is much more brown and super matte while NYX Soft Spoken never dries fully matte.

Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy vs MAC Rebel

Wet n Wild Sugarplum fairy is a dupe for MAC Rebel

Yes! I did a post on Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy being a dupe for MAC Rebel a couple years ago. They definitely are! MAC Rebel is more creamy, but they’re both a beautiful plum berry shade. They’re perfect for fall, which will be here soon enough!

NYX HD Concealer vs MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer dupe

NYX HD Concealer (left) vs MAC Pro Longwear Concealer (right)

Maybe. The NYX HD Concealer is a little harder to blend out and not quite as creamy plus the packaging is completely different from the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. But, they are both full coverage. I’d say they’re not complete dupes, but the NYX HD Concealer is a good alternative since it’s much cheaper.

L’Oreal Amber Rush vs MAC Tan Pigment

MAC Tan Pigment Dupe

L’Oreal Amber Rush (left) vs MAC Tan pigment (right)

Yes! Although I think the MAC Tan pigment is a tad bit more pigmented, L’Oreal’s Amber Rush is basically the same exact color! They both give a beautiful bronzey rose gold metallic look to the eye, and I love them both so much.

NYX Liquid Illuminator Sunbeam vs Benefit High Beam

Benefit High Beam dupe

NYX Sunbeam (left) vs Benefit High Beam (right)

Maybe. NYX Sunbeam is a darker pink toned liquid highlighter and has more sparkle to it while Benefit High Beam is a milkier pink. Personally, I like the NYX highlighter better. It blends beautifully since the formula is creamier, and looks seamless on my skin. I find High Beam to look a little patchy. They’re not exact dupes, but if you have one you certainly don’t need the other.

Have you tried any of these dupes? Let me know in the comments below!

  • Great post! I can’t believe how similar the Wet n Wild lipstick is to MAC Rebel!

    • Right? It’s literally the same, but the formula on MAC Rebel is a bit better!

  • Rebecca Fletcher

Wow these products are all extremely similar.

    • Except for NYX Soft Spoken and Kat Von D Lolita II. I don’t know who said they were dupes because they’re not at all lol.

  • Thank you for sharing! It’s good to know the NYX concealer could be a dupe for the MAC Prolongwear, I own both and never noticed!

  • I’m blown by the similarity between Rebel & Wet n Wild, they’re the exact same shade! Rebel is a color I always want to try but MAC matte lipstick intimidates me, was hoping Wet n Wild is more forgiving but sadly, not seem to be the case. Regardless, it’s a lovely thing to consider if I still want the color.

    • The MAC one is actually a satin finish so it’s comfortable on the lips and creamy :). You should swatch it in stores! Hopefully you like it :)

      • Really?! I have must read it wrong (or the SA told me wrong). I’ve swatched it a ‘couple’ of times, but it looks dry, maybe because they’re tester. Now, I’m seriously tempted to run back to the store and get it.

  • I should try NYX sunbeam as I love the benefit one!

  • Ahh I’ve been wanting to try benefit high beam! I will defiently go pick up the dupe version.

  • The concealers seem like they are the least “dupe-able” or comparable. I’ve heard nyx has a good dupe for a tarte concealer that’s out right now.. one ingredient different (maracuja oil versus coconut I believe). However, I think if you have one of these products you don’t need the other one, if you on a BUDGET you know?

    • Are you talking about the Tarte Shape Tape? I really want to try that one!

  • Loved this post! These are really great comparisons. That KVD and NYX dupe is waaaay off, lol!

  • Oooo this is such a good post!! I love seeing dupes and it’s always so annoying when people say something is a dupe and it’s really not haha x

  • Very interesting. I will definitely try some of those myself. I have never tried NYX (Im not sure we have it in France) and I wanted to for a long time but since it might be a good dupe for Benefit now I have to.

  • WnW Sugar Plum Fairy is probably the best dupe hey!? I have it and haven’t ever felt the need to get Rebel – it’s such a great lipstick on it’s own too, and so cheap! Amber Rush is so gorgeous, I didn’t know it was supposed to be a dupe for Tan! Too bad we don’t get that shade here :((

    Tasha // shiwashiful.

    • Aww no! At least there is a dupe for the shade so you can still get it :).

  • I’ve been after the MAC Tan Pigment for a while, I’m definitely going to try out the Loreal one first!
    Shellie Skillen

  • It’d difficult to find a perfect dupe because even though colours might be practically identical, wear time and consistency/formula is hard to duplicate. The lipsticks and pigments that you posted look pretty perfect! xx

    • I agree! I always think dupes are more for the shade than formula because that’s harder to mimic.

  • Yess! I love dupe posts and I already have Amber Rush in my list to purchase! I agree about Soft Spoken and Lolita, I thought they were dupes because som any said so but when I compared them side by side, they are not at all.

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

  • Loved this post! These are really great comparisons. Soft Spoken and Lolita are similar but not dupes. I have Amber Rush and love it! x

    Ann-Marie | http://facetocurls.com

  • Such an amazing post… now I can definitely justify buying both the NYX Soft Spoken and Kat Von D Lolita II! Plus, Amber Rush is going straight on my wish list xx

  • I’d heard Soft Spoken vs Lolita but not Lolita II – as you said they’re totally different, though I like them both :) The MAC Rebel dupe i pretty impressive though! Also I was going to pick up MAC Tan but already own L’Oreal Amber Rush so that’s saved me some money

    • I wish I had known Amber Rush was a dupe for Tan because then I wouldn’t have purchased Tan. Still, they’re so beautiful so I’m not mad ;P

  • This post is amazing!!! Now I’m super interested in trying the Nyx HD concealer as I’ve run out of my MAC Pro Longwear – don’t think I’ve seen it around Australia yet. L’oreal Amber Rush is stunning! x

    • Thanks girl!! I hope you can get your hands on it! Amber Rush is one of my favorite eyeshadows ever!!

  • Very interesting post! Nyx soft spoken looks beautiful and Lolita as well.
