How to calm irritated skin

Sometimes I feel like my skin is a sour patch kid.. you know, first they’re sour, then they’re sweet. Then they’re sour again, then sweet again, and the cycle goes on. My skin can be super temperamental. Everything will be going really well and then bam– breakouts and irritation. So since my skin likes to test me, I’ve learned how to soothe and calm it down so it can go back to being sweet and normal.

Sometimes our skin just acts up out of nowhere, but these products will calm and soothe your irritated skin in no time.

6 Products That Calm Irritated Skin

Roots & Flowers Detox Mineral Mask

With ingredients like activated charcoal, bentonite clay, kelp, and chamomile flowers, it’s no surprise that this mask is super soothing. I like to apply this all over (or spot treat), and then remove it with a damp, warm muslin cloth. The warmth of the muslin cloth loosens the mask so it melts off easily, and you don’t have to scrub it off, which will only further vex your skin.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray

This facial spray is effective, while also being inexpensive– you just can’t beat that. It contains aloe leaf juice, an ingredient known to help soothe irate skin. Spritz this all over your face, let it sink in, and do its job!

Lush Fresh Pharmacy Cleanser

I recently discovered that I’m allergic to shell fish– a discovery I’m very unhappy about because I love(d) shrimp– and let me just say the hives that erupted on my face and chest were the least pleasant thing I’ve ever experienced. The product that helped me the most was this Lush Fresh Farmacy cleanser. It contains calamine powder, an ingredient famous for it’s soothing qualities. I had one of those “ooh-ahh” relief moments once I applied this and the itchy irritation subsided.

Lush Tea Tree Water

Tea tree oil is a god send if you have irritated skin and this tea tree water feels amazing! It’s a product I constantly repurchase because it’s just so good at soothing the skin and also helps keep your skin blemish free.

Fresh Rose Mask

Another ingredient that has been used for ages because of it’s soothing and toning properties are roses. This rose mask has a gel formula so it’s very light and refreshing on the skin. It also contains cucumber extract and aloe vera, two more ingredients that fight irritation and help soothe the skin.

Belif True Cream Aqua Bomb

Sticking with the gel theme, this gel-cream moisturizer is great at softening the skin and cooling it at the same time. The last thing you want is to have dry and irritated skin so try out this moisturizer. The cooling sensation you feel on your skin when you apply this is very unique, but so satisfying when your skin is throwing a temper tantrum.

  • I just love the Mario Badescu products… they are so effective… loved the post :)

  • Aaagh I feel you. My skin is so annoyingly finicky, it’s why I need to have products for oily and dry skin in my arsenal lol. That belif gel cream sounds amaaazing! I’ve been wanting to try something from their line but wasn’t sure what to choose. I’m sorry to hear that you’re allergic to shell fish :(

    • I’m glad I’m not the only one lol! I hope you give the Belif Aqua Bomb a try! It’s so good :). And thanks, I’m so sad about it haha

  • Oh gosh, say it isn’t so that you are allergic to shellfish! Knock on wood but I would cry if that happens to me because like you, I love prawns, shrimps, lobsters. I have read lots of good review on the Lush Tea Tree Water but is it drying? As I know tea tree oil is drying hence I never purchased it because I have dry skin.

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

    • ugh I’m so sad! Lobster bisque and shrimp was my jam *insert tears*

I have combo skin and don’t find it drying! I know how drying tea tree oil can be, but this product doesn’t do that at all!

  • I’ve heard great things about Lush’s toners (and the Rose one too!) I will be picking one up soon <3

I’m sooo tempted to get the LUSH pharmacy cleanser for my hands – I’ve just started suffering with eczema, and this could be a great thing to do pre-bed to settle it overnight!

  • I’ve been meaning to try the Lush Tea Tree Water for quite sometime now, but I’ve never had the chance. This post makes me want to order one right now! The product I swear by when my skin is irritated is the Leaders sheet mask in Anti-Trouble. It’s amazing, to say the least.

    • I hope you give it a try! I haven’t tried anything from Leaders, but will definitely look it up! Thanks for the recommendation :)

I keep seeing this rose mask around atm! Really want to try it. I’m half Korean so it’s got to be snail product for me! Really liking the Mizon gel atm, it’s ridiculously inexpensive but I’m had good results. Or the Nature’s Republic Aloe Gel. Must say your blog is so pretty btw, super pretty photos – just gave you a little follow on BL :)

  • I can’t even explain why I love the MB facial spray so much (despite writing a whole review on it hahaha) but I adore it sooo much and definitely find myself reaching for it a lot during the summer. When ‘baking’ it goes a long way at getting rid of the excess powdery effect too ^_^

    • Yes! It’s seriously so good and inexpensive! Can’t go wrong with it :)

  • Bernadette

Those face masks sound soooo good!
