Beauty Products I Loved in 2016

So narrowing these products down was a bit of a doozy because there are so many things I really really like, but these are the go to’s I couldn’t live without and would instantly repurchase if they deserted me. Grab a drink, my friends. This is going to be a long one, but I’m going to try and keep things quick and snappy.

Skincare was a huge thing for me in 2016, especially the last 6 months. The cleanser that stands above the rest is the Boscia Purifying Cleansing GelI love the gel consistency and how it leaves my skin clean, but not stripped. Complex Beauty is another skincare find that has really helped my skin out the past couple months. Their Rose Glow glycolic mask and Afterglow complexion mist are two that instantly perk up my skin. And their Thirst Quencher hydra mask is a savior if you’re suffering from dry skin. When it comes to moisturizing the face, I love the Origins Night-A-Mins Cream and for lips, the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask is super well loved as you can see from the dingy tube.

You know I love priming and prepping the skin on days I’m serious about wearing makeup. That’s when the Marc Jacobs Undercover Perfecting Coconut Primer and Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base come into play. Both are hydrating and make the skin very soft and smooth– perfect for makeup application.

For foundation, I hands down give it to the Hourglass Vanish Foundation StickIt blends like butter, has amazing coverage for the days your skin isn’t looking it’s best, yet it still looks natural. Caked, but to the nines.

On the cheeks, I love the Jouer bronzer in Suntan* because it’s matte, and gives the skin that perfect sunkissed look. The Marc Jacobs Airblush in Flesh & Fantasy is newer to my collection, but I’m going to need like all of them. It’s my go to neutral shade. When I want more color and luminosity I turn to Hourglass Diffused Heat

You already know that highlight is my favorite part of makeup so I have a few I regularly turn to like Becca Opal. Give it to me poured, pressed or liquid, I’m all in. Or, Make Up For Ever Pro Light Fusion in Golden. But, I’m deeply in love with both the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sun Dipped Glow Kit and Hourglass Euphoric Strobe Light.

Back in the day I was all about smokey black– dare I say, raccoon– eyes, but now I’m kind of a natural lid kinda girl. But, when I want some sparkle, ColourPop On The Rocks has been a staple along with Makeup Geek In The Spotlight

I’m not super adventurous when it comes to brows because I already have thick caterpillars to deal with, and don’t need to add too much to fill them in. Hence why I love the Glossier Boy Brow so much. It fills in the sparse areas, sets the brows, and makes them look groomed, but still natural. Lash wise, hands down my love goes to the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara since it makes my lashes super fluttery, long and voluminous. For the bottom lashes, I love the MAC Studio Sculpt Lash for long and wispy lashes.

You could say that glossy lips are sort of my new thing, and my favorite gloss is the Marc Jacobs Enamored Lip GlossI have the shade Hey You, but I definitely want to pick up some other more neutral shades. Honestly, things have been a tad bit boring in the lipstick department this year for me (shocking, I know!) as I’ve stuck to lots of old favorites, but my favorite natural lipstick I discovered this year is YSL’s Rouge Volupte Shine 47 Beige BlouseMy go to matte liquid lipsticks are the Jouer Lip Creme’s*. They’re super comfortable on the lips, and I personally really love Dulce de Leche, Cassis, Brique, and Cerise.

For smells, I’ve been loving my Chanel Coco Mademoiselleand I just recently spoke about 4 new perfume additions that are also getting a good spritz every now and again because they smell uhh-mazing. When it comes to hair, I’m kind of a dud. I don’t really do much to my hair because 1, I’m crap at it, and 2, too much product weighs my hair down, which already needs loads of help in the volume department– recommendations for volumizing products, anyone? The one thing I have been loving is the Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-PowderIt’s the only dry shampoo I’ve tried that works for me and doesn’t make my hair even greasier plus it does add a bit more volume, which is always welcome.

So that’s all for my 2016 beauty favorites. If you made it this far, I certainly applaud you because that was v long! I hope everyone has been having a great start to the new year. Wishing all of you the best!

  • I can’t agree with you more on the Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel! I got it in a holiday kit that has a Foreo Luna and gosh, the cleanser makes my skin feel so soft and smooth. Definitely the best that I have tried so far! And no kidding about Marc Jacobs blusher eh? I want them all too. LOL!

Great list of products! I would love to get my hands on some Hourglass products!!

  • Good stuff! Great selection of products.

  • I really want the glow kit but its ALWAYS out of stock! So annoying :(
    Great picks :)

  • I love favorites posts, it’s a great way to discover new products and brands! I’ve never heard of Complex Beauty before but the Thirst Quencher Hydra Mask founds fabulous! Thanks for sharing!

    Jenny // Geeky Posh

  • Great picks! They all sound amazing. I’m definitely going to have to try some of these out. Complex Beauty sounds intriguing, not to mention their packaging looks really clean! I’ve been using the crap out of the HG stick foundation. Came into my life later in 2016, which is why I didn’t include it in my post, but it really is a gem!

    Nicole | The Glam Surge

    • Right? love that foundation stick :). Complex Beauty really has blown me away, and I love their packaging too :)

  • Loved this post and beautiful pictures! :) I want so many of the products in this! Particularly the hourglass blush – it’s so pretty!! x

    • Right? HG packaging is so beautiful and their products are such good quality!

  • I have been back and forth on purchasing one of the MJ Air blushes because they’re so pricey for a blush, but every time I swatch them they feel so amazing and finely milled. The shade Kink & Kisses especially appeals to me as I wear those kind of colors the most. I’ve never tried anything from Jouer, but I’ve been curious about the brand for a while now. You’re so lucky that you have naturally full brows! I’m jealous haha.

    • I felt the same way with the MJ Air Blushes! I picked one up during the Sephora VIB Sale and I’m so glad I did, but also sad because now I want them all haha. Girl, having full brows is a blessing and a curse. You have to groom them every week and it’s painful haha.

  • Can’t blame you, all these products are amazingly effortless. Also, is it on purpose or not, I don’t know, but the packages are all in white-black theme which goes well with your photo aesthetic.

    Selene Addicted

    • Haha I didn’t even do it on purpose. I think I’m just naturally attracted to mostly black/white/nude packaged brands + products.

  • Dom

I really enjoyed reading all of your picks. I agree that the MJB airbrush and Jouer lio cremes made it among my favorites as well as the stick foundation from hourglass! Thanks for sharing!

  • I really want to try some Complex Beauty & Glossier products this year! Great round up! xx

  • I absolutely love the Bite Agave Lip Mask too and it’s one of the few lip products that really helps my very dry and chapped lips. I vow to look after my skin a bit more this year and get into a better routine with it so I will definitely look out for some of the skincare products you have mentioned too. Happy New Year and I hope 2017 is an amazing one for you :) x

    • Thanks hun! Happy New Year to you as well and I hope 2017 is awesome and full of happiness for you :). Seriously though, the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask is amaze.

  • I just gotta say you’re slaying it with this photography! I love it how you’ve played with light and shadow, the images look nicely tonal without being all monochrome. Happy New Year, I hope you’ll have an amazing 2017! Thank you for sharing your favorites <3

    • Thanks for reading girl, and thank you so much :). I’m beginning to find my groove when it comes to pics. I’m glad you’re liking them :). Happy New Year to you too! Hope it’s amazing and full of loads of happiness :)

  • Mmm mm mmm these photos are gawww-geous. Seriously, your photo game has been so strong lately (not that it wasn’t great before or anything). I’ll admit I looove seeing bloggers with loved and used products (your BiteBeauty tube being the prime example) – because then I really know the product is tried and true! In a sense I see a similarity for yours and mine – a love for skincare and a love for highlights. I suppose that’s mainly what we gals want and need: glowing skin ;). And this wasn’t long at allll, mine is in the works but now I’m feeling like mine is a tad too much haha.

    Cindy |

    • Hehe thanks girl, that seriously means a lot. You know I struggled with my pics for a long time so I’m glad I’ve finally gotten in the groove of things (for now :p). YES glowing skin, always! Haha it was originally much longer, but I cut it down. I can’t wait to read yours! Don’t cut anything out :) :)

  • Becca Opal has been a firm favourite of mine :)
    Love the photos! xx

    Creepers & Cupcakes

    • Thanks hun! Can’t go wrong with Becca Opal :)

    • I agree completely! Definitely a stand out in the world of highlighters :)

  • Great faves! I am in love with Jouer Liquid lipsticks and MJ Airblushes very much too. Happy New Year lovely!xo

  • Love this post! Skincare should definitely be just as important as makeup.

  • Fab faves! Lots of products I love or have been meaning to try! I love the Air Blush in Flesh & Fantasy and will be needing more as well. And I’ll need that primer. I see a Marc Jacobs haul in my future!
