ColourPop recently came out with 5 new limited edition Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks, and after trying to get through their website for an hour and a half, I was finally able to pick this up!
Instigator is a beautiful mid-tone peach liquid lipstick. Now, you know I have a love affair with all things peachy so that’s why my eye was drawn to this liquid lipstick in particular, and is the only one I picked up.
I’ve already done a review on the other ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip products I have, and I can tell you already that I think the formula has changed. Instigator still has a liquid consistency and is opaque with one swipe, but it doesn’t dry down as quickly, which is both a good and bad thing. It’s good because you still have time to push the product around on your lips before it dries down, but it’s bad because it will transfer a bit if you, for instance, drink some water before it dries down.
Instigator also seems to have a bit of sheen to it and stays slightly tacky on the lips so it never completely dries down to an extreme matte finish like the older ColourPop liquid lipsticks do. This, in turn, means it does smudge off easier than the older formula. However, it did last on my lips around 6 hours just like the older formula, but if you drink or eat a lot, it fades more than the older formula.
The slight sheen and tackiness really isn’t that noticeable unless you’re being really picky, and of course I have to be so I can do a full review for you all :).
The Good |
- Applies smoothly
- Lasts 6 hours or more
- Inexpensive ($6)
The Bad |
- Can be drying on the lips
- Smudges easier than the older formula
The Overall |
Overall, this color is very pretty and a great peach shade for fall since it’s a bit deeper and not so bright like one you’d wear in the spring/ summer. It’s inexpensive so you can’t really go wrong with this shade. If you’re looking for inexpensive, but good quality, liquid lipsticks then I definitely suggest looking into the ones from ColourPop!
