Foundations worth buying?

I am always on the hunt for a new foundation simply because I haven’t found “the one” yet. I get bored easily and just want to try something new so I’ve tried a good amount of foundations over the years. Today I wanted to talk about my current foundations and whether they’re worth buying.

Full Coverage |

IT COSMETICS CC+ CREAM ILLUMINATION. I really enjoy this CC Cream because it’s full coverage, but still lightweight and illuminating, and has really great ingredients. If you like something really illuminating then I would suggest giving this a go because it’s really nice. It is kind of sparkly swatched on the hand, but on the face it just adds radiance and doesn’t make you look disco ball-esque.

JOUER MATTE MOISTURE TINT. This foundation leaves the skin looking so flawless and even with a matte finish that doesn’t make the skin look dry and cakey. This is worth buying for anyone that likes a more full coverage base without the heavy feeling on the skin. The only downside to this foundation is the color range. I wish there were more shades and undertones available.

Medium Coverage |

NARS SHEER GLOW. If you like a lightweight, medium coverage with a natural satin finish, this is a good one. It’s not very glowy like the name suggests so if you like something super dewy and sheer then don’t go for this. This is perfect for normal to dry skin. If you have oily skin, I wouldn’t suggest this one.

KOH GEN DO AQUA FOUNDATION. [review here] I get lots of compliments on my skin whenever I wear this foundation. It’s lightweight, has a light- medium finish and doesn’t look cakey on the skin. If you don’t mind the splurge– a whopping $62 splurge– then this is a good buy, but it didn’t drastically change my life.

JUICE BEAUTY PHYTO-PIGMENTS SERUM FOUNDATION.* [review here] I’ve been enjoying this foundation because of it’s lightweight/serumy formula that has a medium finish. If you like something lighter with beneficial skin ingredients that still allows your skin to look like skin, give this one a try.

Light Coverage |

LAURA MERCIER TINTED MOISTURIZER. I had a tube of this back in the day when I barely knew a thing about makeup, but was getting interested (ah, to be young and new to makeup again). Now, it’s back in my collection and I’m really happy about it. I would definitely suggest this for anyone who likes a sheer base with SPF. It’s not greasy or oily so I do think oily skin types would love this as well!

DIOR NUDE AIR SERUM. This foundation is very lightweight because of it’s serum-like consistency and leaves the skin looking very natural, but it’s not an absolute must. If you have normal/combo skin and want something with a light coverage, this is a good one because it does the job, but I do think you could find something better.

  • I love the Illumination CC Cream from IT Cosmetics, too! It always adds that nice, healthy glow to my skin! :) I get bored of foundations easily, too and even though I have waaaay too many I always want more, always hoping to find something better :D

    • I bought the CC Cream when I read your review on it hahah! That’s how I am too. I rarely repurchase the same foundations just because I want something new and better.

  • Great selections. I see a few that I have and love. I am such a foundation junkie and no matter how many I have I always want to try the newest one. I definitely want to try the KOH GEN DO AQUA FOUNDATION and the one from IT Cosmetics. Great roundup! x

    • I’m the same way! I get bored of foundations so easily, and it’s so bad for my wallet haha.

  • I actually love IT Cosmetics CC Cream, the original but never tried this illuminating version. I have that Laura Mercier Tinted moisturizer in my list to purchase but since I have so many to go through now, it would have to wait at least until next year. I have read amazing reviews on the Koh Gen Do foundation, the only reason why I have yet to purchase it is the price. It’s crazy expensive!

    • The KGD foundation is so so pricey. I bought it during the 20% off sale. That’s usually when I buy foundations that are super pricey! I want to try the original IT Cosmetics CC Cream when I”m done with this one :)

  • Erin Russell

I love sheer glow and MAC studio fix. I also love the Vichy dermablend! Such a good post though I love seeing them all swatched together :)

    • Thank you! MAC Studio Fix always irritated my skin :/ but I hear so many people say they love it so I’m so sad it didn’t work for me.

  • I love the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer! It’s a staple in my foundation collection :-)

  • I used to live for the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. I rarely buy a skin product twice though because I use them so rarely that I get excited when I run out and buy something *new*

    • I’m the same way! The LM Tinted Moisturizer is a deluxe sample I got and I’m glad I did because I forgot how much I had liked it!

  • I’ve read great things about it cosmetics cc cream, however I can’t seem to get hold of it anywhere. Sheer glow is one of my favourite, it feels light on the skin and gives decent coverage.

    Ela BellaWorld

    • Aww boo. I hope you can get your hands on it soon. It’s so beautiful and has really great coverage for a CC Cream!

  • Finding that holy grail foundation is a never ending task isn’t it! I’d love to try the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser, especially this time of year as I love sheer bases x

    Beauty with charm

    • It really is! If you love sheer bases then I really suggest the LM base. It’s beautiful!

  • I love the It Cosmetics one and I have tried the Laura Mercier one too and liked it. Really want to try the Nars Sheer Glow. I love light foundations, my favorite right now is the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea.

    • I really want to try the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea. It looks so beautiful!

  • Nars Sheer Glow sounds like a foundation that I would in theory love, but it just didn’t work for me. I wish it did because it always sounds so dang good! Great post, lovely pics!

    The Beauty Anecdote

    • Thank you! I’m not super crazy about NARS Sheer Glow like a lot of people are. It’s a good foundation, but I think I’d rather try something else in the future!

  • Zunaira Sulman

love this post so much! Very helpful! Thanks gorgeous <3

  • Such a brilliant post, thankyou for summing up all your foundations! I wonder if you wouldn’t mind if I did something similar? I’d totally credit you of course, but let me know if you’d prefer I don’t haha. I’ve been really intrigued by the Koh Gen Do one, it’s gotten so much hype on the youtuber platform, but dayyyyum is it pricey!

Iqra | The Blushing Giraffe x

    • Yes, of course you can! I can’t wait to read yours as I’ll be on the hunt for new foundations once I finish more of these up :). The KGD one is nice, but so pricey that I feel like I wouldn’t repurchase it, but I’m definitely enjoying it until I finish it up haha.

  • I keep toying with buying the Koh Gen Do Aqua foundation… And then recoil at the horrific price! It’s just so expensive! I’m an Illamasqua Skinbase girl at heart!

Beekeyper – Latest – Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector

    • It is so expensive haha. I feel like you could find a foundation just as good for cheaper. I want to try the Illamasqua Skinbase, but it’s hard to get a hold of in the States now that the brand is no longer available at Sephora :(

  • I’m gonna bookmark this because we have a similar skintone and this will come in handy for sure! Nars Sheer Glow and Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser are faves as well. I am intrigued about the KGD Aqua foundation but I would have to buy it online. Not that I need any more base products.

    Advaita | Blush Canvas

    • Yay, I’m glad you found it handy :). Do you know what MAC foundation shade you are?

  • Bernadette

My eyes went straight to the diore nude air skin foundation, it sounds so incredible.
