Drugstore vs High End Cream Contour Palette comparison

Comparison posts are some of my favorite beauty posts to write and read. I love seeing if dupes really are dupes and how similar products compare. I’ve recently gotten more into cream contouring so I wanted to do a drugstore vs high end cream contour palette post comparing the Makeup Revolution Ultra Cream Contour Palette and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Contour Kit in Medium.

p.s. I’m new to the whole making YouTube videos thing so please be kind :) :)

Makeup Revolution Ultra Cream Contour Palette

The Good. Inexpensive, creamy, natural, easy to blend, contains a mirror

The Bad. Contains mineral oil and parabens, not as pigmented, only one palette color so not suitable for all skin tones

Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Contour Kit

The Good. pigmented, a lot of product, removable pans, different shades to suit several skin tones

  • Looking forward to watching this later when I’m having a youtube binge! xx

  • I only tried a few cream contouring products so I am a newbie as well. MUR one looks better and easy to blend, however, shame that it has mineral oil. I wonder how that blush colour looks once it is blended x

    Ela BellaWorld

    • I’m still trying to find a really good palette! I have been really liking the MUR products I’ve picked up recently.

  • I’m not really into cream contour products, but I have to check out the Makeup Revolution one as an affordable option!

I’ve not used many cream contour kits… I purchased Anastasia BH Kit in Medium which I do enjoy using, the shades are perfect and do blend out well. I’ve also tried the Sleek contour kit, which has a dark shade, a bronze shade and then a pale white/cream shade… these also blend out very well if you’re looking for more drug store alternatives! <3

Check out my beauty blog http://www.forevermegxo.com xxx

    • What do you use to blend the ABH one out? I used a RT sponge and an Artis brush dupe (and used a few drops of oil) and it was still pretty hard to blend out. I wish Sleek was easily available here in the States. I want to try so many products from their range. xx

      • Megan Rice

I use the RT buffing brush, its the only thing that seems to work for me to blend out cream contour, otherwise it goes patchy… sleek are amazing. If you’re looking for a cheap contour shade, look at the LA pro girl concealers, I have the shade toaster and it is a dream to blend! xxx

  • I haven’t tried a lot of cream contour, just a handful. I have been trying to get into more cream products because it’s so much more natural and better on my dry-ish skin. It’s a shame that the Makeup Revolution one has mineral oil in it, so bad for you. x

    • I do love cream products when my skin is on the drier side! Yeah, I’m sad that it has mineral oil. I wish I checked the ingredients in stores when I was picking it up, but I was so excited that I forgot LOL. xx

  • I have the ABH one and find it a bit harder to blend so I haven’t reached for it in a while. I’d much rather stick to my powders, haha. Great comparison once again :)

    • I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks it’s hard to blend! I used a few drops of oil on my sponge and brush and it was still harder to blend out. I stick to powders too LOL xx

  • I picked up the ABH stick foundation and they also had a shade for conturing which I picked up too so hopefully it will perform better than her contour palette.

  • I’ve yet to try cream contouring properly and both of these look great actually xxx

  • Awesome post! I have yet to try anything from Makeup Revolution but I need to!

  • I have the Cream Contour palette, which I got for only $25 from Macy’s last year. I don’t use it anymore because it’s super hard to blend, even with a tarte brush that was meant for cream contouring. MannytheMUA suggested to make it easier and softer by using some sort of oil, but ain’t nobody got time for that!

    • I tried it with oil and it still didn’t blend out that easily. So annoying!

  • I’m surprised I haven’t tried the MUR cream contour kit. Its so cheap i will at some point haha. I really want to the ABH one, it always looks amazing in videos xx

    LPage Beauty

    • It does look amazing in videos! I want to know how they blend it out so easily lol!

Thanks for the comparison. –Hanna Lei

Thanks for the review, it’s always good to know if it’s worth splurging on the more expensive kit or look for lower priced alternatives.

  • I don’t think I’d really mind the lesser pigmentation for a more subtle look, definitely will check it out!

I’m not a fan MR contouring powders, the color is always too warm. I like more cooler tones x

  • Can’t get over how pigmented the ABH kit is! The only cream contour product I have is Illamasqua Hollow and I love the colour on me but I feel like I end up rubbing my foundation off trying to blend it in so I think I’ll have to just stick to powders!

    Danielle’s Beauty Blog

    • I feel that way about the ABH cream contour products! So hard to blend.

  • For me blendability is definitely the most important aspect, so I’d have to go for the cheaper option!

    Beaumiroir

  • The ABH kits looks amazing, so pigmented!!

    • It is so pigmented! I think I would’ve liked it more had I gone with the Light shade.

I love love love makeup revolution contouring products. x

Its high time that I should give cream contouring a go. Loved your comparison. I think I will first try with drugstore option to see if it works for me and then move to the ABH one.
