How To Get An Intense Glow With Makeup

steps for getting an intense highlight and glow
How to get an intense glow with makeup

Almost every day I get compliments on how glowy my skin looks from my sister, my mom, and even from random women when I’m shopping for more makeup. Every time I get a compliment, in my head I whisper a little thank you to each and every product that helped me achieve my glowy makeup that day. I did not choose the thug glow life, the thug glow life chose me.

Lately, I’ve stepped up my highlight even more, and today I want to show you how I get an intense glow with makeup. Brace yourself, it’s about to get lit.

How To Get An Intense Glow With Makeup

Step 1: moisturize

Skin prep is major key and I have been living for the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base. It costs a pretty penny, but it really hydrates the skin, gives it that hydrated glow, and allows primer and makeup to go on more smoothly. What was I doing before this face base? I don’t even know.

Step 2: prime

I did a whole post on primer recently so you know I think it’s an important step. My primer of choice as of late has been the Burberry Fresh Glow primer in 01. It’s so glowy, but doesn’t make you look like you just did the highlighter challenge. I like to apply this on the high points of my cheek bones, but who am I kidding? It ends up all over my face. I ain’t mad.

Step 3: use a base

Once your makeup is done, and before you set it with powder, apply a highlighting base. You can choose a liquid highlighter or cream highlighter. I personally have been using the Milk Makeup Face Gloss. A face gloss. I simply dab a tiny amount on the top of the cheek bones, cupids bow, and above the eyebrows. It gives the skin that editorial wet skin look. Living for it.

Step 4: set with powder

Once you have applied your base, go in with a powder highlight. I haven’t been able to put down the Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Duo in 02. The highlight in there is  s t u n n i n g  and makes you look like a glowing goddess. The gel powder formula is untraceable on the skin so there’s no powderiness or chalkiness. It simply blends into the skin like buttah.

Step 5: spritz your face

Now apply a setting spray to really seal that bad boy in. I’m loyal to my trusty MAC Fix + because it really sets everything, feels refreshing, and the spritz doesn’t drown you. It’s a nice spa like mist that will enhance the glow.

The swatch seriously doesn’t do it justice because on the face it looks wet and glimmering like you just doused yourself in gold. Again, living for it.

  • I’m a new beauty blogger and new reader of yours, and I followed immediately! Your blog is such goalsss <3

    Emily | Kaiaroes

  • Oh wow, the face gloss and powder combined really make the color pop. I’m on oilier side but lately, I have been trying to ’embrace’ the glow trend (super late, buuut, better than never). The Burberry Primer is definitely in my to buy list, tho I’m going for the darker one ;)

    Selene Addicted

  • I love the glowy look that a lot of people have been rocking lately but I just can’t seem to reach that level of glowy-ness, haha. I’m definitely going to have to check out that face gloss! That might just be what I need to amp up my highlight game!

Nicole | In The Life of NM

  • Ok let’s be real, I use the Burberry Fresh Glow Primer ALL over my face too. Because why not, it’s summer and the glow is in. I’ve never tried Fix+ but I can see how that’d give that dewy glow. I also just ordered some MILK products so maybe if my skin reacts well to their products I’ll need to give that face gloss a try because FACE GLOSS? That’s just tempting in itself.

You are such a queen of highlight – I will basically listen to anything you say haha

    Cindy |

    • LOL why thank you ;). I’m glad I’m not the only one using the Burberry primer all over their face :p. I hope you try the face gloss and like it! I know right? The second I read “face gloss” I was like sign me up!

  • Definitely want to get my hands on the burberry luminous base someday. Everyone talks about how beautiful it is and I think I’m going for the plunge! Love the pictures and I love the style of writing here aha, “it’s about to get lit”

    The Beauty Anecdote

    • Haha thank you! I get excited when talking about highlighting :p. I hope you give the Burberry primer a try :)

  • I have a fear of glow because I have the oiliest skin ever at the minute but the MUFE duo looks gorgeous!

    Danielle’s Beauty Blog

    • Aww! Using a lot of highlight when you have oily skin can be intimidating!

  • Have added some of these products to my wishlist – I’ve never heard of that Milk gloss before! I want everything! xx

  • I’ve always wanted to pick up that MUFE duo, the highlighter looks stunning! I live in a very humid environment so I can’t rock the dewy look as I run the risk of looking like an oil-slick, but I used to love it when I lived in drier weather! Awesome recommendations! xx

  • Recently I have been loving very soft, subtle glow from within look so I’ve been mixing my illuminating primer into my foundation. And then I layer liquid highlighter and finally top it up with powder highlighter.

    Shireen | Reflection of Sanity

    • Ooh what illuminating primer do you use?

      • I have L’oreal Illuminating primer, Becca Backlight Primer Filter and CoverFX Illuminating primer. Love mixing all three with matte foundations. :-)

  • Beth

Mac fix plus has been on my wishlist for so long! That makeup forever duo also looks stunning! My go to highlight is Soft and gentle by Mac, I love a good intense glow aha. Lovely post and photos!

  • Tessy Onyia

Lovely tips dear. Very useful post. I still struggle to get a perfect makeup done too but I will put these tips to use. Thanks for sharing.

  • I definitely think having a glowy face starts at your skincare routine so a good moisturiser is so important, as is an illuminating primer! Love your picks here, that highlight is gorgeous.

    The Makeup Directory

  • I learned about Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base via Jeffree Star this year and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I use it on a daily basis. I also just tried MAC Fix + and it’s dreamy for intensifying color.

  • Good skincare routine and products are important! Even though these products cost much, I am sure getting compliments pays it off :) I have a question, is there any difference between the normal Fix+ and the lavender one (I think that’s what you have, right?)? x

    Ela BellaWorld

    • Skincare is definitely super important! I have the rose one. I honestly don’t notice a difference in functionality. The only difference is really the scent!

  • Loved your tips. I love Mac fix+ too. I love a good glow :)

    Ann-Marie |
