Koh Gen Do review

It’s been about a year since I first heard about Koh Gen Do and their highly raved about Aqua Foundation. Since then, I’ve tried out a few other products from their range and thought I’d share with you all what’s worth trying out.

Koh Gen Do Review | What’s Worth Trying Out

The Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation is a nice foundation. It never gets cakey on the skin, makes the skin look natural, and provides a buildable to medium coverage. I do like this foundation, but as I said in my review, it’s just really expensive, and didn’t WOW me enough to want to repurchase it. If the price is no biggie to you, then definitely try this out because it is really nice! Their color selection is a bit lacking though. I’m in the darkest shade (143) and I’m a MAC nc35.

If you’re into illuminated skin then give the Aqua Foundation Illuminator* a chance. I have the shade IL01 and it’s a very beautiful golden illuminator. These are water based so they mix in with foundation nicely (as long as it’s oil free) and it looks very lightweight and smooth on the skin. I also like to apply this to the top of the cheeks when I want a beautiful, natural glow to the skin.

On the cheeks, I like a more natural looking blush because it’s really easy for me to go from zero to full on clown cheeks when a blush is really pigmented. The Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Cheek Color in OR02 Mandarin Orange* is very natural on the skin and gives just enough color to brighten up the cheeks. Even though this blush is orange, it’s not super crazy and still looks wearable on the cheeks. It’s especially perfect during the spring/summer. The puff applicator is very unique and makes applying the cheek color very easy, especially when you’re in a hurry!

When it comes to lips, I really suggest trying out the Maifanshi Lipstick and Maifanshi Lip Gloss. I have both in the shade BE403 Light Beige* and they’re the perfect every day lip colors. The lipstick is very moisturizing and creamy and the lip gloss is smooth, shiny and not sticky. They pair amazingly well together, but I also love wearing them on their own.

Their Cleansing Spa Water Clothsare some of the best makeup removing wipes I have ever used! The cloths are thicker, nicely saturated, and feel very soothing and spa-like on the skin. They feel so refreshing on the skin and are great at removing all your makeup. Of course, I still go in with a cleanser afterwards, but one of these gets almost all of my makeup off! I just ran out of these, which is why I don’t have a picture of them, but I’m definitely going to get them again!

  • I’ve not actually heard of this brand before, might have to look into it a bit more!

    Georgia | The Weekend Attic

    • I hope you do! I especially love their lip products and the makeup wipes!

  • Oooh those makeup cleansing wipes sound really good! I usually stay away from wipes but perhaps that’s because I stick to the cheapies XD Thanks for all the recs!

    Mili | Sharmtoaster

    • The cleansing wipes are really nice! I always stuck to cheapy ones too haha, but this has changed everything. I can’t go back to the cheapies now :p.

  • I wanted the Aqua foundation ever since I read it on your blog but no kidding about the price and worse? Sephora Canada doesn’t carry it so I have to get it from other site. Ugh!

Reflection of Sanity | b·liv Skincare Set Giveaway

    • Ahh no!! Hopefully you can find it somewhere when they’re offering a discount!

  • I first heard about this brand from Jaclyn Hill when she raved about the Aqua Foundation. I wanted it for the longest time, but the price was just too hefty so I held out on it. I’d still give it a try though (once the funds are up, lol). The lipstick and lipgloss swatch really nicely!

    Nicole | The Glam Surge

    • That’s where I heard about it too, and had to give it a try! I waited until the Sephora sale to buy it!

  • I’ve heard so many crazy-rave reviews on this foundation, but I could never justify that price tag-thanks for being a little more balanced!! The lip products sound really good though-maybe I’ll go for them instead!

Beekeyper – Latest – Tony Moly Egg Pore Series

    • It’s a nice foundation no doubt, but it’s just too expensive for my taste to repurchase it. Definitely try the lip products. They’re really good!

  • Such an interesting post! So many people rave about the Aqua Foundation so it’s quite refreshing to read mixed review about it for once, the lipsticks sound absolutely lovely though!

    • If it was cheaper, I would probably repurchase it! The lipsticks are really nice :)

  • Rosy Flynn

I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this brand or the Aqua Foundation, definietky something for me to look up :)

Rosy | Sparkles of Light Blog

  • I’ve yet to try anything from the brand, and like you mentioned, I’ve only heard about the foundation but haven’t looked into the brand much other than that. The blush and illuminator I am now interested in, and will definitely keep in mind!

Loved reading this post lovely, I don’t see too much on Koh Gen Do products! The lip products look like absolutely perfect colours for me, although the illuminator sounds beautiful from your description. Thanks for sharing and have a great Sunday!

    • I hope you give the lipsticks and illuminators a try! So beautiful :)

  • Your blog and photos are so dreamy! I’ve never come across Koh Gen Do before but the shades are really pretty, I love the sound of the illuminator – the blush shade is so lovely also!

P.S Just wondered if you might be interested! I am currently giving away the Too Faced Grande Cafe Gingerbread palette :D xx

  • Cara E

The illuminator sounds absolutely gorgeous <3 I'm definitely going to have to see if I can get my hands on it. Koh Gen Do sounds like a great brand!

  • I think the first time I heard about this brand was on your blog. I haven’t seen any of them in the stores and I don’t like ordering makeup products online without testing so unless I come across to them, I won’t be able to try. That illuminator looks beautiful :) x

    Ela BellaWorld

    • I feel you! Ordering online without testing can be tricky. Hopefully you can test them out in stores soon!

  • I recently went looking for the Koh Gen Do foundation but couldn’t find it, I ended up purchasing Luminious Silk by Giorgio Armani, which I’m so happy with. I’m surprised to hear you weren’t overly impressed with the KDG foundation, but it’s good to know as it is so expensive!

I’ll have to look into their lipsticks! Good to know.
