Makeup Tutorial: Ring in the New Year with Glitter!

The time has come; it is time to celebrate the end of 2013 and the beginning of a whole new year. So, of course, glitter is a must! Here are two makeup looks that would be perfect for a New Years Eve celebration or if you really just want to glam up for a party.

The focus of course will be on the eyes in both looks because that is usually the hardest and more dramatic part of any New Years Eve look.

The first look:

Steps:

  1. Apply an eye primer all over your lids up to your eyebrows to keep your shadows from creasing (I didn’t do that, which is why my shadows were creasing).
  2. Then, apply a black liner all over your lids as a base and blend it out, making sure your lid is opaque and black.
Used: Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean by NYX
  3. Work a matte burnt orange color into your crease and blend that out with a fluffy brush.
Used: Sienna from Anastasia Beverly Hills Lavish Palette
  4. Take a flat shader brush and apply a black shadow with gold sparkles (or any sparkly black color you like) and pat that on your lids over the base you created with the black liner.
Used: Black Diamond from Lavish Palette
  5. Make sure to blend it all together
Used: MAC 224 tapered blending brush
  6. Use a matte black liquid or gel liner to line your upper lash line and then wing it out.
    Used: Essence Gel Liner
  7. Smoke out your lower lash line a bit with the sparkly black shadow.
Used: Black Diamond from Lavish Palette
  8. Apply a nude liner to your waterline to open up your eyes and soften the look a bit. You could use black if you wanted it to be very dramatic and intense.
    Used: Stila liner in Topaz
  9. Curl your lashes and apply mascara to your upper and lower lashes, and if you like, apply some false eyelashes on top.
    Used: Too Faced Size Queen
  10. Apply pinky silver glitter to your inner corner to brighten it up and to give it some pizzazz. Spray your brush with water or spray so the glitter adheres to your skin and stays put.
Used: Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Pure and MAC Fix+

Steps:

  1. Prime your eyelids with a cream base.
Used: Painterly Paint Pot by MAC
  2. Work a matte soft brown color into your crease and blend it out with a clean fluffy brush.
    Used: Soft Brown by MAC
  3. Apply a matte burnt orange color above your crease a little, blending it into the soft brown color.
    Used: Sienna from Lavish Palette
  4. Use your damp ring finger to apply pinky silver glitter all over your eyelids over the cream base you applied earlier.
    Used: Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Pure
  5. After that dries, use an eyeliner with (or without) sparkle and create a wing on your upper lash line.
Used: Blitz and Glitz gel liner by MAC
  6. Use that same matte soft brown color and smoke out your lower lash line a little.
    Used: Soft Brown by MAC
  7. Line your waterline with a nude eyeliner (or white if you want it to be more dramatic).
    Used: Stila liner in Topaz
  8. Curl your lashes and apply mascara on your upper and lower lashes and add fake lashes if you wish.
Used: Clinique Lash Doubling mascara; Lancome Définicils mascara
  9. Last, spray a brush with water or setting spray and dip it into silver or gold glitter and apply that into your inner corner for added sparkle!
Used: MAC Fix+ and NYX glitter in gold or silver (discontinued now, but literally every makeup brand has loose glitter).

For the lips, you can choose any color you want, but I decided to keep it nude for both looks.
