I always stop at the Chanel makeup counter whenever I’m at a department store. It’s just one of those brands that lures you in with it’s minimal, beautiful display. Personally, it’s a brand that I’ve always wanted to get my hands on since I was a teenager falling in love with makeup. They have several products that are still on my wish list, but for now, I’m happy to finally own the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Foundation. I’ve lusted after it for years!

Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Foundation

I’ve wanted this foundation for at least over 2 years now, but I’ve just always gotten sidetracked by other beauties. But, alas, it’s finally mine. Not all Chanel products are worth the splurge, but is this one worth the money or the hype?

I have combo skin and found this foundation to apply really smoothly and evenly without looking cakey. It has a medium finish so it does even out your skin tone, but it’s not completely full coverage. It has a velvety semi-matte finish, which is my go to during the fall/winter, so it’s not completely matte and flat. I had a few dry patches when I first wore this, and it did cling to them a bit. It didn’t look horrendous, but if you have dry patches or flaky skin then this foundation probably isn’t the best one for you.

It lasted about 7-8 hours on my skin before I noticed fading so the wear time on this was really nice. If you’re sensitive to scents then I wouldn’t suggest this one. It does have a slight powdery floral scent when you first open the bottle and apply it. But, it doesn’t last long nor is it noticeable through out the day.

Of course the packaging is gorgeous. It comes in a plastic black rectangular bottle, but it’s still very sleek. It’s so tiny that it seems like it may not have much product, but you do get a full ounce of product, which is standard.

Overall, I really love this foundation! It looks beautiful on the skin and is definitely worth the splurge and the hype!

  • This used to be my go to foundation when I lived in Miami. It holds up so well in hot and humid weather. I haven’t used it since I moved because my skin changed a lot so now I’m dealing with dry patches.

  • Yay! I’m glad that it gets a thumbs up from you! I realized my favorite Nars tinted moisturizer was breaking my out so I’ve been on the hunt for a new, light-medium coverage face product. I’m totally gonna have to check this one out!

    • I hope you do! Ugh, that sucks! I hate when a favorite product betrays you like that haha

  • I still haven’t tried any Chanel makeup! I know, I know I’m a bad blogger haha! I really like the sound of this though, I sounds worth the investment :) xx

    • It’s okay haha! I’m so behind on so many brands/products that are beloved by bloggers!

  • No, this is a huge no no on my skin. I requested for a sample of it when it first launched and tried it even though the SA told me that it’s not suitable for dry skin. It was absolutely horrid on me, I don’t think my skin ever look that dry and cakey before.

    • Oh no! I guess it’s best for combo/oily skin tones. Plus, I live in humid/hot weather so maybe that plays a part too!

  • I feel like the fragrance wouldn’t work too well on my skin since I’m really sensitive. But I love the packaging and it sounds like such a good formula. What shade is that lipstick by the way?

  • I love how minimal but classy the packaging is. This foundation sounds nice especially since I don’t have dry skin, so the formula wouldn’t be a problem, and I love floral scents, haha. I would def give this foundation a go!

    • Minimal classy packaging is my favorite! If you don’t have dry skin then definitely try this one out :)

  • I absolutely LOVE this foundation too! I’m oily/combination and find this really lasts and ends up just the right side of glowy by the end of the day!

Sounds like an amazing foundation. Beautiful photography too x

  • I’m not sure if this would suit my skin especially in the upcoming colder months where I tend to have dry skin more than usual. I do love the simple black packaging though x

    • The packaging is so gorgeous! I wouldn’t recommend this if you have dry skin and live somewhere that actually experiences fall/winter weather haha!

  • I’ve always been hesitant about Chanel foundations because they always get good reviews from people with drier skin and I never really hear people with oily skin (like me) talk about them, so I’m not sure any of them would last on my skin all that well, but I’m glad to hear you like it so much and that it was worth the money for you. :)

    • I feel like this one would be great for oily skin! You might have to powder depending on how oily your skin gets, but I’ve heard that people with oily skin like this one :)

  • I’m glad you enjoyed it after finally parting with your money!

  • I love the packaging of Chanel it’s so luxurious! I’m a big fan of the Soleil Tan De Chanel bronzer, it’s one of my top high end products, I’ve never tried their foundations but have always wanted to!

    Shellie Skillen

    • I love their Soleil Tan bronzer as well! It’s so huge. I’ve barely made a dent in it!

  • Wear time is one of my top priorities when buying foundation so the fact that this one lasts for 7-8 hours before fading is so great! I’ve heard really good things about this product! x

    • Wear time is definitely very important. I live in a hot climate and it stood up well! Granted, I’m not out in the heat all that much haha

  • I’ve always been a big fan of Chanel foundations – Pro Lumiere was my number one before it was discontinued and I adore Vitalumiere Aqua. I really want to pick up this one for A/W, as I much prefer more of a satin/velvety finish during this time of year, too.

    • I really want to try the Vitalumiere Aqua! It’s on my wishlist for spring/summer :)

  • Dom

I am a fan of their foundations as well. I have not yet tried this one but I did recently purchase the Le Teint Tenue which I really love. I just have not gotten around to writing a review just yet!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I have not tried this one but it’s been on my wishlist for a while as well. I’m not typically a fan of matte finishes but I’m glad to hear that it’s not flat matte so that’s good. At some point, I do want to pick it up. Great review! x

    Ann-Marie | http://facetocurls.com

    • I’ve usually hated matte foundations in the past, but this one looks very nice on the skin! I don’t think I would’ve liked it as much if it were completely matte. Definitely great for fall/winter when I personally prefer a less dewy foundation.

  • Bernadette

I’ve been curious about this foundation ever since i first heard about it. Great review.

  • This is probably the best foundation I’ve ever used n my life Nida! I agree with everything you said, it’s great for normal to slightly oily skin, I wouldn’t recommend it to people with very dry skin. I found it to be super light and with a natural finish. Now I’m using Nars Sheer Glow but I don’t trust it as much as I trusted my chanel velvet :( I ran out of it some months ago sadly!

    • I finished up my NARS Sheer Glow. I liked it, but like this better! I hope you can get another bottle soon. So good.

  • iheartcosmetics

Ooh I am pleased you like it as I have been trying to find a review from someone who looks for the same type of thing in a foundation as I do. Fab review, thanks v much! It’s on my list. Now just have to brave the dodgy laminated women at my local counter to find my shade…always an adventure! x

    Sarah at Iheartcosmetics

    • Hahah I hope you’re able to dodge her and pick it up. It’s very nice on the skin :)

  • I’ve wanted this for such a long time, but never got around to purchasing it! I’m glad to hear it’s a good one :) xx
