Worth The Hype? | NARS Orgasm blush

NARS Orgasm blush review
NARS Orgasm blush

If there’s one blush you’ve heard about, regardless of whether or not you’re a makeup junkie, it’s probably NARS Orgasm blush. It’s their most well-known blush, and is considered a classic.

Sometimes when a product is over-hyped, it can cause you to have very high expectations, and the product will either satisfy your makeup cravings or let you down. I’ve tried some makeup products that are over-hyped in my opinion — i.e. Gerard Cosmetics lipsticks & the YSL Touche Eclat Blur Perfector— and I’ve been let down.

I got this deluxe sample size of NARS Orgasm in a little NARS sample pack at Sephora. Shockingly, I’ve never owned this blush before! It’s a pretty peachy pink shade with a gold shimmer running through it. This color is a universally flattering shade and the shimmer isn’t chunky so it adds a radiant highlight to the skin.

NARS Orgasm blush

The texture of this powder blush is very soft, creamy and finely milled. It’s not chalky or powdery so it blends into the skin easily. The pigmentation is nice, yet subtle, and since it’s so blendable, you can build it up or sheer it out depending on your preference. The wear of this is long lasting too. It lasted on my skin anywhere from 7-8 hours depending on the weather and what I was up to that day.

The Verdict |

Yes and no. I think this is a good blush for newbies because it’s a shade that flatters most skin tones and types. It’s a no fuss blush so if you just don’t know what blush to get, this is a good place to start. Plus, the shimmer adds a glow so if you’re not really into highlighting, this is a good two in one. It is:

  • Pigmented, but subtle
  • Blendable
  • Goes with most makeup looks
  • Adds a golden peachy warmth to the skin
  • Long lasting
  • Good quality

However, if you have a lot of blushes then I don’t really think this is worth the hype. It is a beautiful blush, but it’s not life changing.

Many people say ELF’s bronzer/blush duo in St. Lucia is a dupe for NARS Laguna bronzer and Orgasm blush; I’ve owned that ELF duo before, but I don’t think the quality compares at all. Orgasm is much smoother, pigmented, and blends easily in my opinion. The ELF duo I had wasn’t very pigmented nor was it soft so it didn’t blend out easily.

Overall, if you’re going to splurge on a high end blush, this wouldn’t be my first recommendation.

  • I still don’t own a NARS blush, I’m a disgrace to blush lovers everywhere! I have tried Orgasm before, I do really like it but I don’t think I would go out and purchase. I’ve amassed sooo many similar peach-pink shimmery shades!

    • Haha I only own a few. I love this shade, but yeah I didn’t go out and purchase it because I already have so many peachy pink blushes. That’s why I’m glad I got it as a sample :). I think this would be a good blush for anyone who’s starting to get into blush and doesn’t know where to start :)

  • I used to own this, it was my first NARS purchase. I had it for a couple of years but never reached for it much – mine wasn’t too pigmented and I continuously had to scrape the top layer to try and get some pigment payoff. I got tired of doing this/sanitising it and threw it out. But I love NARS blushes in general, no other shade has ever had this problem! xx

    • Yeah, I don’t blame you, I would throw it away too! That’s so weird though because mine is pigmented and doesn’t do that. Maybe you got a bad one :/ I had a MAC blush that was like that and eventually I just Back To MACed it, but my sister had the same blush and it wasn’t like that.

  • This was my first Nars blush since it was so hyped up and to be honest I don’t use it as much as my other Nars blushes. It actually doesn’t show up as much on my medium skin and I think Nars has better shades that I love like Sin and Madly :)

  • I literally am never able to decide if I need this blush! You’re so right once a product is hyped I’m almost wary to try it because expectations are so high! Lovely post

    • Haha I was the same way, which is why I’m so glad I got a little deluxe sample of it. It is beautiful, but if you have a lot of blushes, I wouldn’t say this is a must have.

This is definitely a cult favorite. Love Nars blushes!

I absolutely love Nars Orgasm one of my all time favorite, it just does something special and lit’s up the entire face. It’s a gorgeous shade.

    • It’s definitely very beautiful. I can see why it’s such a cult fave :)

  • You’re so right, Orgasm is totally a newbie blush, in fact it was one of my first blushes! As someone way more into makeup now, I don’t find Orgasm terribly exciting, but I would always recommend it to “regular” people as it’s a very no-brainer shade and looks good on anyone. I also liked to use mine as a subtle eyeshadow.

    • I don’t reach for it often either because so many other blushes have my attention, but it’s definitely a good one for newbies :). I haven’t tried it as an eyeshadow, but that’s a good idea!
