2013 Beauty Favorites: Lipsticks

If you know me at all you know that one, I am a complete lip junkie, and second, purple was by far my favorite lip color this past year. Oddly enough I was never that into lipsticks or lip products in general until this past year. Something just clicked in me and I started hoarding lipsticks among many other products. So, let me show you some of my favorite lipsticks of 2013!

Bellissima is a beautiful pale pinky peach color that dries to a matte finish. I absolutely love this color for a natural look or if you are trying to tone down a dramatic smokey eye. Although I bought this in mid- December of last year it quickly became a favorite of mine and I don’t know how I have gone without it. If you have dry flakey lips you definitely need to exfoliate and moisturize your lips ahead of time before applying this because it does get into the cracks of your lips and it is pretty drying. You really need to love matte lipsticks to be able to love this product.

Bite Beauty is a company that I had never heard of, but when I saw the High Pigment Matte Pencil in Violet I snatched it up. It is so creamy, pigmented and glides onto your lips like butter. I normally research products and companies before buying anything from them so this was definitely an impulse buy. Once I saw this beautiful purple lip color I was sold, and I am very happy that I picked this beauty up. I have worn this on my lips a lot the past 5 months and I will definitely check out more of their products.

This past year I have become a huge fan of Revlon’s lip products and when they came out with their Matte Balm Stains I drove around my city like a crazy person looking for these. Sultry is by far my favorite as of now because it is a dusty rose color with slightly brown undertones. It is very pigmented, smooth, moisturizing and creamy and the peppermint oil in it leaves your lips feeling a bit cool and tingly, which I love.

The Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Darling is the reason I fell in love with Revlon’s lip crayons. Darling is a very pretty pinky purple. At first I hated it because it is so sheer that I thought no color was was even coming off. However, as I continued to use it, I fell in love. This is pretty moisturizing, but it does wear off easily. I found that this was the only one from the Just Bitten Balm Stain collection (I only own about 3 others) that really left a stain on my lips.

I purchased my first Lime Crime lipstick this year, and I am very glad I did! The color I purchased is Airborne Unicorn which is a pastel, almost neon, lavender purple. It is very creamy, and I absolutely love the packaging. It is pretty moisturizing, but it doesn’t last very long because of that reason. Still, love the color.

My most worn brand in general is MAC so to no surprise I have some favorite MAC lipsticks. First, the Viva Glam Nicki 2 lipstick, which was a limited edition lipstick. This color is a very pale lavender, but it is such a stunning, unique color that I had to have it. Since I have an olive/medium skin tone it makes me look a little, er, dead, to be honest when I apply it straight from the tube all over my lips. But, when I line my lips with a darker color and apply this only in the center of my lips and blend, it is stunning! Second, I love MAC’s Up the Amp, which is a creamy, lavender violet color. It is an amplified formula which means it isn’t matte, but it is not shiny or glossy, it is more like an opaque and pigmented cream that is moisturizing on the lips. Ruby Woo was another lipstick that I wore a lot this past year. It is a very vibrant, matte blue-red lipstick. The color is so gorgeous, and a cult favorite for reasons I definitely understand; it is stunning on everyone! Although the formula is very drying the color payoff and longevity is definitely worth it.

The last two products are from a brand (OCC- Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics) that I kept looking up online at Sephora.com before I finally purchased their very popular and super talked about lip tars. Hoochie is a vibrant and true violet; I am literally obsessed with it. It may or may not make you feel like a ‘hoochie mama,” but in this case that is a good thing! I went to every Sephora near me and none of them ever had this color until I went to the Northpark Sephora in Dallas. While at the Sephora in Northpark I also spotted Black Dahlia, and there was only one left so you know I swiped that up as fast as possible– no regrets! The OCC lip tars are amazing. They are super pigmented and last so long. You only need the tiniest drop so the whole tube will probably last you your whole life! It is definitely worth it!

I have so many lipsticks and lip products that this list was really hard to make. I love all of my lipsticks, but I definitely wore these the most this past year, and love them all so much! I tend to go for bolder brighter lip colors and these are all really pigmented. I may or may not do a lipstick collection post or video soon because I have so many and my collection only continues to grow literally every day.

What were your favorite lipsticks this past year? Let me know in the comments below! I would love some suggestions so I can go buy some more ;).
