2016 has officially started, which means it’s time for a roundup of some standout makeup products of 2015. This past year, I think lots and lots of women went makeup crazy– myself included. It was really hard to narrow down all the products I love that launched in 2015, but these are the products that I would repurchase in a heartbeat if I were to run out.
Bioderma | [UK] This micellar water is nothing new if you live in France/Europe, but this became readily available in the US this year thanks to Beautylish, and I’m so happy. This is a very good makeup remover that really gets rid of dirt, grime and makeup. Cheers to Beautylish because running out of Bioderma and never getting my hands on more is no longer a recurring stress dream.
Pixi Glow Tonic | [UK] Again, this is nothing new if you live in the UK, but it just became available in the US and I couldn’t be happier! This tonic feels so soothing and gently exfoliates your skin since it contains 5% glycolic acid.
Marc Jacobs UnderCover Perfecting Coconut Face Primer |
This is the first primer I started using religiously. I just can’t do my makeup without it because it nicely hydrates and adds radiance to the skin. [review here]
Becca Backlight Priming Filter | [UK] Another primer I can’t live without is the Becca Backlight Priming Filter. It adds a luminous pearly glow to the skin. It’s not as hydrating as the MJ one, but it’s still amazing, and pairs really well with the MJ primer.
Marc Jacobs #InstaMarc Light Filtering Contour Powder |
Contouring was a big beauty trend in 2015 and SO many companies released contouring products that are well loved. Personally, my favorite, and go to contour powder, is the Marc Jacobs contour powder in Mirage. The powder is so smooth, creamy, and blends out perfectly. It’s a cool toned powder that really looks like a natural shadow. [review here]
Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop | [UK]
People literally went crazy over this highlighter, and I can understand why. It’s the perfect champagne highlighter with a slight peach tone to it so it works really well for people with light skin and for darker complexions. #highlightonfleek for sure.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminators |
I have the shades So Hollywood and Riviera, the latter of which is my favorite out of the two. They are pigmented, but still easy to blend out so you can really pack it on if you want to be spotted by Google Earth or you can keep it natural if that’s more your jam.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette | [UK] Lots of people were disheartened by the size and price of this palette, but I do think it’s worth it. You get to try a lot of different products from the brand and have them all in one compact palette, which is so convenient. This product is a standout for me because it allowed me to try so many different powders and blushes that I wanted to try from them. I saved money, and have a lovely traveling companion.
This is limited edition, but it’s still in stock at Sephora, Nordstrom, and Barneys to name a few so definitely snag one up if you don’t mind the hefty price tag. The bronzer included in this palette, which is permanent, was also released this year, and is another standout product from them. So if you don’t want to purchase the whole palette, definitely try their bronzers. [review of Edit palette; review of bronzer]
Now onto lipsticks– my favorite thing everrr.
Jeffree Star Liquid Lipstick Androgyny |
Androgyny is a beautiful mauve shade that was very popular in 2015. The formula of these liquid lipsticks are liquidy, but still velvety, and they look and feel velvety on the lips. This shade was so popular that it’s coming back February 2016!
Dose of Colors Stone |
Another liquid lipstick that people went crazy for–and rightfully so– is Stone from Dose of Colors. It’s a beautiful cool toned light pink/nude/mauve shade that is unique, but still flattering. Dose of Colors liquid lipsticks are by far my favorite formula. They make your lips look luscious, yet matte, and the formula isn’t too liquidy or too moussey– they’re perfect. [review here]
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip |
A more affordable liquid lipstick option are the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks. I have so many colors, but some of my favorites are More Better, Bad Habit, Clueless, and Trap. The formula of these have changed from the original formula, but that’s a good thing. They’re not as drying, and I think they’re easier to layer and work with because they don’t dry down as quickly. For $6 you just can’t go wrong. [review here]
Maybelline Clay Crush | [UK]
The Maybelline Creamy Matte range launched in 2014 I believe, but Clay Crush is a shade that was added in 2015. It’s such a beautiful peach toned nude that is great for every day. The creamy matte lipsticks are by far my favorite from the drugstore, and this is one of my favorites from their color selection. [review here]
MAC Soar lip liner | [UK] Okay, so this lip liner has been around for a while, but it really blew up in 2015 and is hands down my most used lip liner so I had to include it. I love this color as a lip liner or all over the lips as a lip color. It’s just such a beautiful dusty pink, and I’m not even that big of a pink lip lover on myself so my love for this says something! [swatch]
