5 Things I Tried: Beauty Products Tested No. 3

I’ve been having a love hate relationship with my Glossier Oil Body Wash, and want to venture out into other body washes. I love the Glossier body wash, but as of late the scent has been giving me a slight headache. So on the hunt I went for a new body wash– not necessarily an oil like the Glossier. I ended up buying two: Ursa Major Citrus Riot Body Wash + Diptyque Revitalizing Body and Hair Shower GelTonight I’ll be using the Ursa Major. The scent is strong (of bergamot, lime, ginger), has a gel consistency, and comes in a bottle sans pump. It felt nice on the skin, and the scent is potent, but refreshing. My skin felt squeaky clean, erring almost on the side of drying, but nothing some moisturizer couldn’t fix. So far, I like the scent, but wish it came as an oil like the Glossier.

From the way I wax poetic about it, you have to know by now that Farmacy Green Clean is my go to cleansing balm. It’s one I smile about as I put on my makeup in the morning because come nightfall I’ll get to remove it all with my beloved Green Clean. I’m also very picky when it comes to cleansing balms so using a new one can be daunting, but I’m excited to try out the Pixi Beauty Double Cleanse*. First, I went in with the cleansing balm side, and it felt just okay. It’s not as soft and melty like the Farmacy, but it’s not bad at all. A few splashes and pat dry later, I double cleansed with the cream in the other half of the tub. Cream cleansers aren’t my favorite since they never feel as nice, and although this one wasn’t horrible, it didn’t feel amazing. All in all, the Double Cleanse worked. Am I going to wax poetic about it? No. And would I purchase it once this press sample runs out? Sadly, probably not. I had high hopes, but I’ve had better (i.e. Green Clean). It just didn’t feel as lovely on the skin and for the price, I’d rather spend an extra $10 and get something that makes the makeup removal process more pleasurable.

This face is in desperate need of a face mask so the MakeupDrop silicone applicator* that just dropped by in my mailbox is being put to the test in place of my regular foundation-brush-turned-masking-brush. I received 3 versions– the clear original one, the pink one, and the sparkly quartz one. We’re going to go original today even though it says it works best with liquids and serums. The face mask of choice is the Acure Organics Brightening Face Mask. I don’t love this mask, but it’s on its last legs, and the consistency isn’t too thick or too runny– it’s a nice in between. I squeeze some out of the tube and onto the applicator then proceed to smear my face with the green substance. Initial thoughts: it’s a little more messy than using a brush, but it wastes a lot less product. The brush I use always gets gunked up with product that just goes down the drain– money wasted. There was much less wastage with the silicone applicator, and although a bit messy, I got an even application. So far, so good. Probably (okay, definitely) wouldn’t use this with makeup. But I do want to try it out more with skincare products.

At night, I always love using micellar water to remove most of my makeup before going in with an actual cleanser + today’s micellar water of choice is one that has crystals in it. The Girl Undiscovered Crystal Cleansing Water* contains rose quartz and citrine, and comes in a beautiful glass bottle. I poured some onto a cotton round and swept lightly against my skin. It took most traces of makeup off and felt refreshing and nice. The only slight downside was the scent. It’s not the most pleasant– I really don’t know how to explain it– but it’s not enough for me to never use it again because it does feel nice on the skin.

Get Velvet recently sent over one of their goodies– the Plush Hydrating Melt— so I thought I’d give it a go during my PM routine tonight. It has a balm-to-oil consistency, and feels nourishing to the touch. I applied it to clean skin, and opted out of any other products or serums so I could give this a proper try. I generally don’t use balms likes these on my face to moisturize, but I do use oils and love some (like Sunday Riley UFO since it’s great for blemish prone skin). Sadly, it felt a little too greasy on my skin and in the morning I woke up with some clogged pores on my chin. Hopefully this works better on the rest of my body than it does on my face.
