Sometimes Internet hyped brands let you down…

Are Huda Beauty Liquid Lipsticks Really Worth the Hype?
I constantly hear amazing things about Huda Beauty products, but never went out of my way to pick anything up until the Sephora VIB Rouge sale. I decided to pick up one of her Lip Contour Sets. I picked up the set that has 2 matte liquid lipsticks: Trophy Wife, a rose color, and Muse, a muted rose color. Plus, a lip contour also in the shade Trophy Wife.
The Good | Pigmented, thin, smooth application, creamy, velvety matte, comfortable
There’s nothing worse than a liquid lipstick that flakes off the lips or causes the lips to flake off and crackle up. I’m happy to report that these don’t do that. The formula is thin and liquidy, but pigmented and smooth. They do dry down matte, but they’re comfortable on the lips, and more velvety than a flat matte. I honestly forgot that I was wearing liquid lipstick a few times until I walked in front of a mirror and was like “oh hey, you wearing lipstick.”
The Bad | Wear time and transferability
I saw Huda testing these out on snapchat, and she ate a greasy slice of pizza but her lipstick was still intact. Color me impressed. Unfortunately, I did not have those same results. Color me sad. In fact, these didn’t even last through my morning Chestnut Praline Latte (which you need to try from Starbucks asap if you haven’t. It’s Christmas in a cup, but only for a limited time). My lipstick decided to completely leave my lips and apply itself to the lid of my to go cup instead. Since then, I’ve tried both colors to see if they’ll last through a meal, and they didn’t because they are in no way, shape or form transfer proof. They didn’t smear all over my face, but they definitely didn’t last through a meal.
The Verdict |
Overall, I do really like the formula of these liquid lipsticks, and I really like the colors in this set. I can see why they get such high praises. However, they won’t last you through dinner, and you’ll definitely have to reapply. If you’re in need of a long wearing lipstick then I would look elsewhere. But, if you’re not eating or drinking, or don’t mind reapplying if you are, then these are really nice because you can apply it and forget it since they are so lightweight on the lips. Lastly, a quick shout out to the lip contour because I really like the one that came in this set. It’s a very velvety, creamy, matte lip liner. It reminds me of the NARS Velvet Matte lip pencils, but thinner.
BTW, this set isn’t available anymore, but you can get the full sized versions of each.
