Beauty Products I Regret Buying

Generally I do not post much about products I dislike because I would rather focus on the products I love. But, I believe I should also talk about some of the beauty products I regret buying and didn’t get along with.

Naked 1 Palette| I know, I know, you’re probably ready to click out of this post because you just can’t believe that anyone would say anything negative about this beloved palette. But, before you burn me at the stake, hear me out. It’s not that this product is horrible or that the colors aren’t pretty. The reason I regret buying this palette is because I’ve found better neutral palettes out there that are cheaper than this one (i.e. the Lorac Pro Palette). I just don’t find myself really reaching for this palette because there aren’t enough matte shades to do a proper eyeshadow look– at least not for me. Although I regret buying it, I do want to use this palette more during 2015. Again, I just want to state that it’s not a horrible product, I just think there are better alternatives.

Too Faced Return of Sexy Palette| I purchased this palette a couple years ago after swatching it in Sephora, and I fell in love. However, unfortunately, it does not transfer very well onto the lids and fades very quickly. I purchased this before I really fell in love with makeup and applying eye shadows so I didn’t realize that buying an all shimmery eyeshadow palette probably wasn’t the best idea. I do love the colors and get a little bit of use out of this, but not too much. Could I live without this palette? Yes. Personally, I regret buying this because it just was a waste of money. I try to use it as often as I can, but it is difficult.

Urban Decay Oz Glinda Palette| I regret purchasing this palette, but it’s not because the shadows aren’t great. The only reason I regret purchasing this is because the colors do not really suit my skin tone. I wish I picked up the Theodora palette instead because the colors are beautiful and neutral, which is what I like. I try to use this palette, but again, it just isn’t something I really reach for. If I were more fair toned I think I would enjoy this a lot more.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask| I’ve heard many great things about this moisturizer, and I was really excited to try it out. Unfortunately, I do regret buying this. The consistency of this moisturizer is very thick, which is why I used to apply this at night before bed during the colder months. For some reason, this really irritated my skin, which makes me sad because it left my skin very soft and quenched. I tried this for a few months over 2014, but I just couldn’t get on with it. If you have really dry skin, try to get a sample of this because maybe it’ll work for you!

ELF Bronzer Blush Duo| I’ve heard many people discuss how this duo is similar to the NARS Laguna bronzer and Orgasm blush so I thought, “What the hell, it’s only $3” and picked it up. Boy, do I wish I saved those three dollars. This is absolutely nothing like the NARS bronzer and blush. The texture of this ELF duo is very gritty and hard. I have to scrub my finger against the product and still there is barely any pigmentation. Maybe I got a bad one, but it is horrible in my opinion, and I do not recommend this at all. I would rather invest in the NARS bronzer and blush because they are quality products that are pigmented and smooth.

MAC Frankly Scarlet| I love MAC blushes and my blush collection is predominantly MAC, but this color is one I regret buying because it is just TOO pigmented for me. Even with a light hand it is just very intense. I must say though that it did come in handy when I was creating my Zombie makeup tutorial for Halloween this past year. The only reason I regret purchasing this is because it isn’t an everyday blush color. However, if you enjoy pigmented bright reddish blushes then this will definitely be for you! I really think this color would gorgeous on darker skin tones!

Benefit Instant Brow Pencil| 2014 was the year of the brow– at least for me! I never used to fill in my eyebrows since they’re Caterpillar-thick without any extra product, but I realized that lightly filling them in really makes them look neat. Anyway, this brow pencil, for the lack of a better word, sucks! The pencil is just way too creamy, which normally isn’t a bad thing, but I’ve realized that using a waxy, almost dry, eyebrow pencil works best. This brow pencil was pretty expensive and since it was so creamy the product receded quickly. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to spend all my money on repurchasing a brow pencil.

Lancome ArtLiner| It seems like this is a somewhat recurring theme in this post, but again, this isn’t a bad product, I just think it’s extremely expensive and you can find a better black liquid eyeliner than this one. I don’t have anything negative really to say because it is nicely pigmented and easy to work with, but it’s just really expensive. So, I won’t be repurchasing this because there are cheaper alternatives, and my biggest regret is just paying so much for this.

L’Oreal JLo and Eva Nude Lipsticks| These lipsticks just really didn’t do it for me. Although they are quite inexpensive, I expected more out of them especially since I love Fairest Nude and Toasted Almond from their permanent lipstick line. The JLo and Eva nude lipsticks, which I believe are limited edition, just aren’t pigmented at all and I was completely let down. However, I do have to say that I do enjoy this packaging a lot more than their regular lipsticks.

Gerard Cosmetics Nude Lipstick| If you are an avid YouTube or Instagram user then you have probably seen Gerard Cosmetics, which is extremely popular amongst beauty gurus on both social media sites. I decided to cave and purchase three highly talked about lipsticks from Gerard Cosmetics, and one of them was the Nude shade. I have to say that I am disappointed with this one. It isn’t that pigmented nor is it very creamy. I find the color just doesn’t suit me. I do hope to play around with it more, but I just don’t reach for this because I know my MAC nude lippies are just so much better all around, and they’re cheaper!

Whitening Lightning Lip Glosses| This is another product that is highly raved about, but just didn’t wow me. One night, well, morning, at 4 am I was watching What Would Lizzy Do’s video where she was swatching some new Whitening Lightning glosses. FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON, I thought I needed their new Exotic lip gloss line that had black, white, sky blue, lavender, and bubble gum pink shades. So, I got out of bed, grabbed my debit card and placed an order for the whole collection. Why? I don’t know. I’ve learned that making 4 am impulse purchases just really isn’t good for my wallet. Anyway, I was completely underwhelmed when the package arrived. The packaging feels cheap, looks cheap (this was before they rebranded as Gerard Cosmetics) and the glosses weren’t flattering nor did they feel good on the lips. On top of that, some of the lights in the tubes were glitchy. Yes, these lip gloss tubes come with built in lights when you open it and a mirror on the side. I like the concept, but really it was just very tacky. I hated these so much that I just had to get rid of them because I couldn’t stand looking at them, and that is why they are not pictured above.

Now, I don’t know if their new lip glosses are better, but the Plum Crazy lip gloss does look nice! Will I be buying it? Probably not.

I always feel bad knocking on products because I don’t want anyone to think I am dissing a brand or their products, but I do have to be honest, and I honestly do regret buying all of these products. I would not shed a single tear if they were not in my collection. I do have to say that I don’t regret buying all of these products because they’re crappy or anything, but a lot of them were just underwhelming and pricey, which is generally why I regret buying products.
