Base product for a radiant glow | left to right: Marc Jacobs Undercover Perfecting Coconut Face Primer, Becca Backlight Priming Filter, and Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer

Do The Dew | Base Products for a Radiant Glow

I could talk all day about the highlighters I believe you need in your life that will add a beautiful glow to the skin, but before we tackle highlighters, I want to talk about base products for a radiant glow. As in, primers and “foundations”– that sort of stuff.

When I first became interested in makeup, I was all about powder foundation, specifically the MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation. I do like a good powder foundation sometimes, but I much prefer something liquid, light and glowy when it comes to my base now.

I’ve also recently fallen in love with primers. Although I don’t think they make my makeup stay on significantly longer, they do create a nice base for your foundation and everything to glide over. Plus, it’s a great way to prep your skin. Want something more matte and pore hiding? There’s a primer for that. Want something more dewy and hydrating? There’s one for that too. Today, however, we will be discussing primers that give a glow to the skin.

The first primer that leaves the skin looking hydrated and dewy is Marc Jacobs Undercover Perfecting Coconut Face Primer, which I’ve done a whole review on because it’s that great. This primer doesn’t contain any shimmer or sparkle, but it is so hydrating that it leaves the skin looking moisturized, dewy, and smooth.

The Becca Backlight Priming Filter [review] is another amazing primer, but it contains shimmer, which makes it very glowy. It’s not overly shimmery though; it just gives a beautiful radiance to the skin and makes the skin look smooth.

The “foundation” I’ve really been loving is the Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer. Long ago, I used to own her original tinted moisturizer and liked it, but never repurchased it. I just got the illuminating version and like it a lot more. It does contain a slight shimmer, but it doesn’t look like you have glitter or shimmer on your face. Instead, it just makes your skin look dewy and glowy. This has light to medium coverage so if you’re looking for something that has good coverage, but is radiant, this won’t be for you. I think this is great for when you want some light dewy coverage.

For now, these are the three base products I’ve really been loving that allow you to do the dew. Most people lean more toward matte foundations during the fall/winter months, but I haven’t given up on radiant skin just yet!
