Everyday Drugstore Lippies I Have Been Loving

As much as I love sauntering into Sephora, Nordstrom, MAC, etc, and grabbing every high end lipstick I see, I love going to the drugstore and picking out some drugstore lip products as well. So, here are some everyday drugstore lippies I have been loving lately!

Touch of Spice | Personally, I never really liked Maybelline lipsticks because I never found a color or finish that really caught my eye. Also, I always thought the lipsticks smelled like clay or play-doh, which always deterred me from really liking them. However, Touch of Spice is a game changer for me. If you’re looking for that perfect “nineties” lip, but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg at Sephora, then this is a great alternative. From the first swipe, I fell in love. The formula is very opaque, creamy–yet still matte– the scent isn’t overpowering like the other lipsticks, the color is a perfect shade for my skin tone, and it is super inexpensive! How can you beat that? I think this shade would look gorgeous on anyone from fair skinned to dark skinned and everything in between. It is a great everyday nude that lives in my purse because it goes on so easily and looks great with any makeup look.

Everlasting Caramel | Another drugstore brand is now making liquid lippies and that is L’Oreal. Their liquid lippies are more on the pricey side of drugstore at around $10-13 depending on where you get it, but I really do love this color– a medium pink with brown undertones. If you’re looking for a drugstore lipstick that matches Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year Marsala, this is a good one. The liquid lipstick glides on easily, doesn’t tug, and it is really opaque and pigmented. I will say that when you first apply these and let them dry they are extremely tacky on the lips and feel a bit like glue, but once they dry down some more (it takes about 15 minutes to fully dry, which is kind of a long) the intense tackiness does go away. I don’t mind it so much though. The balm side of it is supposed to take away the tackiness, but I don’t ever use that side of the duo. This liquid lippie lasts a very long time, and when I swatched it on my hand it took about a day to come off even after washing my hands, showering, and exfoliating so you really need to use an oil based product to get this off. I like to soak a cotton round with almond or jojoba oil, place it on my lips for a few minutes to loosen up the product, and then wipe it off.

Left to Right: Maybelline Touch of Spice and L’Oreal Everlasting Caramel liquid lipstick

I am really glad Maybelline decided to make their matte collection permanent because I can see Touch of Spice becoming one of my favorite lipsticks that I repurchase over and over again. I believe the L’Oreal liquid lipsticks are also permanent so I need to go purchase some more. The drugstore has really been stepping up their lipstick game. Gone are the days of sheer, glossy lipsticks that barely have any color to them, and I’m all about the opaque matte lip so I am over the moon about this!
