Financial Frenemy Friday

Financial Frenemy • (fəˈnanCHəl frenəmi): One who sabotages your financial budget by causing you to purchase high end items you don’t really need, but convinces you that you literally cannot live without them.

Hello,

I am your financial frenemy, and I am here today to tell you that the following luxurious products I am about to mention are things that you don’t really truly need in your makeup collection.

FinancialFrenemy

Estēe Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup | A lightweight formula that blends into the skin beautifully. What more could you ask for? This product doesn’t have high coverage, if that’s what you are looking for, but on those days you just want to even out your skin tone and opt for a more natural look, this is perfect. The consistency is very liquidy, but that allows it to blend in flawlessly and it dries to a velvety finish—it’s not completely matte, but it’s not luminous and dewy.

Estēe Lauder Bronze Goddess Powder | Bronziness (no, that’s not a word) is close to godliness, and this bronzer is great for achieving a sunkissed glow like J. Lo. Many bronzers are overly shimmery or matte, but this one has a slight shimmer running through it that isn’t too “in your face”. Instead, it just adds the right amount of subtle radiance and warms up the skin while looking natural.

NARS Highlighter in Albatross | Sometimes you just need a little golden glow in your life, and this is it: a cult favorite, and rightfully so. Many highlighters are more pink or champagne in tone, but this one is a nice pale gold that looks divine when applied (even though it looks white in the pan). It is very pigmented so dust it on sparingly. Otherwise, you might end up looking like a golden disco ball, which is never a good look.

NARS Eyeshadow in Persia | I would have never guessed that I would love a matte burnt orange eyeshadow as much as I love this one. I know, I know, it sounds daunting, but trust me, it is stunning! Persia is highly pigmented, and blends so flawlessly into the crease as a transition shade, but it also looks fabulous when applied all over the lid then blended out. This color is amazing for anyone who wants to add warmth to their look, and it will be perfect in the cooler months!

MAC 217 Brush | If there ever was a brush that blended eye shadows out beautifully, it would be this brush. Sure, it is expensive; I’m not denying that. But, what good is your makeup if you don’t have the proper tools to use it? No matter how great the makeup, if you don’t have the right brushes then it will not apply well– especially eye shadows. Thus, take the plunge, and splurge a little. Trust me, you’ll be thanking me later!

Which high-end bits are your personal favorites?
