Grow Your Blog With This One Rule

In its own way, the blogging world has become its own business. It’s a heavily saturated market and thousands upon thousands of people aspire to make full time blogging their careers. However, simply writing great quality content is no longer enough to grow your blog. You have to go to the mountain.

Grow Your Blog With This One Rule

My marketing professor would always stress that we needed to understand several key terms before we could really delve deeper into both business and marketing. One term he always stressed is the the 80/20 rule. It means that 20% of your customers produce 80% of your sales. This is also true when it comes to blogging, but tweak it a little. Instead, it means that 20% of your time should be spent writing content while 80% of your time should be spent promoting it.

There’s the age old saying, “if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” The same goes with writing blog posts. Does it matter if you produce great quality content, but no one reads it? Obviously if you’re blogging simply because you love writing (I do!) and not because you’re trying to make a living off of it, then that it what you should do. But, promotion is key if you want to gain more readers and have a voice in the niche you’ve chosen. In that case, a lot more energy should be spent towards marketing. Quality content is still very important, but exposure is necessary if you want to grow your reach.

Promotion is key.

Social media is the best tool for promoting your blog posts. Instagram and Twitter are the most popular and widespread tools used to grow blogs. But, don’t forget about sites like Pinterest and Reddit because in a way they have become their own search engine tools.

Don’t forget about Google and other search engines when writing your content. One of the easiest things you can do to promote your content is by installing an SEO tool to your website. I’ve talked about this in the must have free WordPress plugins post I wrote a while back, and I still highly recommend it. Studies have shown that people rarely scroll past the 2nd page of Google so ranking on the first page is one of the best ways to grow your blog. My most popular posts are the ones that have ranked on the first page of Google and Google images. I highly recommend installing an SEO tool to your site to make promotion easy and seamless.
