I’m sure you’re all tired of me talking about the Marc Jacobs Undercover Perfecting Coconut face primer, but as I also picked up the new Becca Backlight Filtering primer, I thought I would compare the two.

If you read my Marc Jacobs Undercover Perfecting Coconut face primer review, then you know I’m a huge fan of this primer. It slightly blurs out your skin so it looks smoother, hydrates the skin without feeling oily or greasy, and gives the skin a natural radiant dewiness without containing any shimmer or sparkle.

The Becca Backlight Filtering primer is marketed as blurring out the skin and adding radiance so your skin looks more flawless. The formula of this is not as hydrating as the Marc Jacobs primer, but it’s by no means drying on the skin, and it didn’t accentuate any dry patches. Similar to the Marc Jacobs primer, it doesn’t have that silicone feel, but it does allow your makeup to glide on easily. It doesn’t fill in your pores that much either, but it also doesn’t claim to do that. It does, however, claim to blur out the skin, and it did blur it out a little, but nothing drastically different.
Both primers kept my makeup in place and elongated the wear of it by a few hours, but neither one drastically improved how long my makeup lasted over the other.

Marc Jacobs Primer |
- $44
- Infused with 5 types of coconut
- No sparkles or shimmer
- Hydrates skin because it’s so moisturizing
- Gel cream formula
- Goes on completely clear
Becca Primer |
- $38
- Thicker cream consistency
- Contains slight shimmer
- Infused with three filtering luminescent pearls
- Contains vitamin E
- Has a slight champagne tint to it so it does lighten your skin tone slightly
The Verdict |
I really like both primers, but I slightly prefer the Marc Jacobs one because it’s more hydrating, which makes your skin look healthier and smoother. I do still like the Becca primer, but I would like it even more if it was more hydrating. If you’re looking for a primer that will really fill in and blur your pores, then I wouldn’t suggest either of these. However, if you’re looking for hydration so your skin looks smoother and healthier, I would suggest the Marc Jacobs primer. If you don’t care as much about hydration or pore blurring, but want something with shimmer that will reflect through your foundation, I would go with the Becca primer.
