Tom Ford matte lipsticks are some of my favorites, but I try not to wear the two I own that much because they’re so expensive. Special occasion? They’re my go to. But, on a day to day basis I tend to opt for another lipstick from my collection, and since I have more lipsticks than necessary, I was bound to come across some Tom Ford Black Dahlia dupes.

Black Dahlia is a deep berry burgundy shade, which is very beautiful during the fall and winter, but it’s $52 a pop so…. ouch. The quality is amazing, but the price tag is hefty, especially when you’re a recent college grad on a job hunt.
MAC Diva is a bit more red toned, but it costs $17 and is much easier on the wallet. The finish is matte, but it’s still creamy– just like Black Dahlia– so it’s not super drying on the lips and glides on nicely without being patchy.

Kat Von D Motorhead is a matte black cherry shade and costs $21, but it is a lot closer in color to Black Dahlia. However, the formula is definitely not the same. The KVD lipsticks are very matte and aren’t that creamy at all so they are pretty drying, and can tug at the lips. If you’re not used to matte lipsticks then I definitely don’t suggest starting with this formula. I do love some colors from this lipstick range, but they do begin to feel uncomfortable after a few hours. You definitely need to make sure your lips are exfoliated and hydrated because they cling to dry patches a lot– unlike Tom Ford lipsticks.
