Top Ten Makeup Favorites Of 2014

2015 is finally here! So I wanted to take some time and reflect on some beauty products I had a love affair with in 2014.

Contour Kit| Although I just purchased this palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills in December, it is easily one of the best products I purchased in 2014. I had my eye on this for a long long time, and decided to just give in and purchase it; I’m glad I did! It blends out flawlessly and I like how it has everything I need for highlighting and contouring in one palette.

The Amrezy Palette| This eyeshadow palette, which is also by Anastasia Beverly Hills, was limited edition, but you can still purchase the shadows as singles. I’m glad I picked this up because the quality is so great and it wasn’t too expensive. Anastasia eyeshadow palettes are really great quality and this has all the neutral warm shades I love with a few pops of color to jazz it up.

Opal Highlighter| I used to love a good matte makeup look, but the last half of 2014 for me has been all about the glow. I went a little highlighter crazy and I can’t get enough. These Becca highlighters have been a great discovery for me. They are so soft, velvety, pigmented, and they blend out flawlessly. If you are looking to splurge on one great highlighter, I would suggest buying one from Becca. All of the highlighters go on like butta.

Black Grape| This past year I used the MAC Pressed Pigments a lot and I absolutely love how they add the perfect amount of sparkle to the eyes. I own three of the Pressed Pigments, and the one pictured, Black Grape, is the newest edition to my collection (I have done a review on the shades Deeply Dashing and Day Gleam).

Ambient Lighting Palette| This is also a fairly new purchase since I just bought it during Sephora’s VIB sale in December. However, I’ve been looking at this product for a year now and I’ve been wanting to purchase it. I finally did with my 20% off coupon, and I absolutely love it. It is very finely milled and adds a subtle glow to your skin. As cliche/corny as it sounds, it does give you that “glow from within” look.

Patina| This liquid lipstick has been a favorite of mine throughout the year, and I can tell it has been a favorite of many this past year because it sells out so quickly. The liquid lipsticks in general have been my favorite, but this is a great dusty rose shade that dries completely matte. Although this is extremely drying, the payoff is just so great. I’ve done a full detailed review on the liquid lipsticks.

Train Bleu| This velvet matte lip pencil from NARS is a gorgeous dark vampy shade that lasts on the lips for hours and leaves a gorgeous stain behind. I love this because it isn’t too drying and the pigmentation is very dark. I’ve been loving dark lips this past year and this was one of my most loved dark lipstick shades.

Sin| Sin is one of those shades by MAC that literally everyone owns because of it’s lasting power and universally flattering shade. It’s a dark burgundy shade that has a matte finish so it’ll last on your lips for a long time; it even leaves behind a stain.

Fashion Revival| Unfortunately, this shade was limited edition, but I really hope they make this permanent because it is gorgeous. If you like dark pink shades, this is a great color. I am going to try to find some dupes for this because it is absolutely gorgeous. Again, this is a matte shade and ever since I purchased it, I have been using it nonstop. The color is just so stunning that I can’t stop looking at it.

Cathedral| The last shade I have been loving is a nude color: The Kat Von D Studded Lipstick in Cathedral. Apart from loving dark burgundy or vampy lip shades the past year, I loved nude lippies. This is a gorgeous dark nude with pinky brown tones to it. It was an impulse buy, and I’m really glad I picked it up since it has become one of the best nude shades I own. It is matte, but not extremely drying. The color is opaque and pigmented, but buildable so you can wear a light wash or really slather it on; I prefer the latter, of course!

Narrowing down my list to just ten products was extremely difficult because I tried out so many more products this past year. However, out of all the makeup I purchased this past year these ten selections are my favorites, and what I reached for the most during 2014.

I hope you all had a safe and happy New Year’s Eve, and have a great new year!
